Pamela Greene is an Irish artist currently studying for an MFA at the University of Ulster.  Primarily a painter, she has a strong connection to the landscape of the Ards Peninsula where she lives; the drumlins, the woods shaped by the wind, Strangford Lough on one side, the Irish sea on the other.

She is interested in phenomenology and finds resonance with Merleau-Ponty’s belief that bodies carry ‘intentional threads’ that are connected to their surroundings, so that when seeing a landscape it is perceived by the whole body.  Her approach to her work is not to paint what she sees but what she feels in her body.  This inter-connectedness with landscape finds expression in her work through a process of layering. Using transparent mediums, Greene seeks to capture the sense that our identity reflects that of the stratified landscape, that we too are accumulations of time, experiences and memories.
